Great British Sewing Bee offers fresh silk inspiration

Over the last few weeks, television viewers have been celebrating the much-anticipated return of the Great British Sewing Bee.

The hit BBC show is now in its sixth season, inspiring home sewers everywhere to try their hand at creative and exciting new outfits.

In week one, the contestants, were asked to create that springtime staple: a tea dress. Suitable for both formal and informal occasions, it is a versatile style that can draw on all sorts of influences, from retro to modern takes.

Tea dresses can be created in a variety of fabrics but to really stand out from the crowd, why  not choose the luxury and quality of silk?

Silk, silk jersey, satin crepe and silk georgette all make comfortable, breathable yet effortlessly stylish clothes that add timeless elegance, whatever the occasion. From our range, we particularly recommend crepe de chine for a tea dress that will really turn heads.

On week two’s episode, which was Holiday Week, the amateur sewers tried their hands at an all-time classic: palazzo pants. Nothing exudes summer style like the chic silhouette of the palazzo pant, which looks great in many different colours, prints and fabrics.

To take this style of trouser to the next level of sophistication, silk has to be your fabric of choice as it is ensures the wearer is cool even in the hottest weather, while radiating good taste and glamour. If you need some inspiration, a heavy satin, or marocain, or even a crepe supreme are some of our favourite fabrics for beautiful, feminine trousers. While plain, these fabrics could be personalised with a design, hand printed or hand painted.

As leading UK silk suppliers, we’ve sourced an amazing selection of silk fabrics to enhance Great British Sewing Bee adventures.
