Brides take a vow of colour

As bridalwear becomes more individual, contemporary and unique, colour comes into its own, says silk specialists Pongees, whose fabrics can now be bought online.

As such, its collections are full of romantic hues of blush, soft pink, sky blue and silver. Its laces have flashes of metallic thread, floral 3D embroidery and other embellishments.

“After several years of daring, plunging necklines and glimpses of flesh, 2019 will see a return to a more refined and demure design ethos,” says Nick Moore, managing director, Pongees. “Think of Audrey Hepburn in vintage Balenciaga.”

Brides and members of the bridal party may also be inspired by one of the main fashion trends for spring/summer 2019 that focuses on the glam rock of the ‘70s and the thrill of Studio ’54.

To achieve this look requires voluminous amounts of French organza to billow over tight duchess satin corsets; seductive georgette to spill from under figure hugging velvet waistcoats; high sheen satins to shimmer on sexy jumpsuits and layers of iridescent tulles to catch the eye and the imagination.

The colour story here is one of statement and intent, passion and drama; warm tropical shades dominate like a stunning bird of paradise eager to show off its exotic plumage.

Pongees shades include the requisite deep magenta, dark berry, canary yellow, teal and tangerine.
